Choosing The Right Garbage Bag Capacity

Garbage bag capacity should be selected based on the size of the trash can and actual usage needs. Small trash cans commonly found in homes are generally suited for 10–20 liter bags; these are ideal for areas with lower waste volume, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, offering convenience while minimizing waste.

For kitchens, where significant amounts of household waste are generated daily, 30–50 liter bags are typically recommended. These bags offer a suitable capacity for daily refuse-such as food scraps and packaging-and possess sufficient load-bearing strength to prevent tearing or breakage when lifted.

Trash cans in public spaces like offices and schools usually have larger capacities, so bags ranging from 50–80 liters (or even over 100 liters) are appropriate. Such bags accommodate high-volume usage by multiple people, reducing the frequency of bag changes and improving cleaning efficiency.

When selecting a bag, it is advisable to choose a size slightly larger than the trash can itself; this ensures the bag's opening can fully wrap around the rim, making it easier to secure and tie off. Additionally, one should consider the weight and type of waste to avoid issues like tearing or leakage caused by undersized bags or insufficient load-bearing capacity, which could compromise the user experience.
